Allan Sanders was born in a small grey shipbuilding town in the North West of England, He studied at Manchester University and the Royal College of Art. He now lives in Brighton and has been represented by Heart since 2002.

Allan’s artworks are meticulously drawn, creating a consistent and easily recognisable style. His characters are usually depicted in profile, eyes to the front or with a shifty glance over the shoulder. As well as humans his pictures are populated by key personalities such as robots, skeletons, elephants, tigers, superheroes and the odd cop. Busy scenes are a passion for Allan, creating a small universe of interconnected events, but iconic and conceptually tight vignettes are also a forte of his.

Allan has worked on many illustrated children’s book projects including a series of flap books for Templar Publishing with titles such as ‘On The Move’, ‘My Amazing Body’ and ‘Outer Space’. He has also illustrated ‘Perfectly Perilous Math’ published by Workman, an activity book for Klutz and is currently working on an alphabet book. Allan created artwork for a Cheestrings campaign ‘The Brave Bones Club’ which appeared as an interactive website, packaging and TV ads. He has also worked on a billboard campaign and animated TV ads for the Oregon Humane Society encouraging people to adopt a pet. Other advertising commissions include Fab ice-cream for Nestlé, Vodafone, FIFA and Healthy Scotland. Allan was asked to create artwork for the an animated film on display at the National Museum of Horseracing. He has illustrated brochures for Sécurite Routiere in France and the WPP Fellowship. He is a regular contributor to the New Yorker and The Economist amongst other editorial clients.
