One in a series of five artworks illustrating an imagined ‘Garden City’ of 2040. The project was commissioned by Space10, a design studio set up to collaborate with IKEA, as a research and design lab.
The artworks were presented at ‘The Ideal City: Exploring Urban Futures’ exhibition at The Barbican, London. An interactive installation, shared three speculative environments — the Coastal City, the Garden City, and the Solar City. Viewers glimpse these futures through one of three VR headsets, custom-designed in the shape of coin-operated binoculars. Each headset reveals five scenes, accompanied by an audio narration that guides the viewer through the actions each city took to arrive at a safe, desirable and hopeful 2040
