Romy Blümel is a German illustrator living in Berlin. Her work has the look of a linocut but is created by drawing directly on to the surface of paint as well as drawing in ink and combining the two mediums. Her work is about texture and colour setting a tone or mood. Her personal interests have always been linked to history and politics. She loves books and stories, myth and legend. Romy has worked on several illustrated books for The Folio Society as well as book covers for a Mary Anning’s biography and the cover of ‘Mrs Dalloway’ by Virginia Woolf. Her work has been used for the packaging of Fortnum & Mason products as well as branding for boutique hotels in Switzerland and for the English Heritage handbook. Romy regularly works with a large range of editorial clients internationally including The New York Review of Books and Harper’s Magazine.
