Illustrated edition of ‘The Songlines’ by Bruce Chatwin, published by The Folio Society
The book is in part fiction, part travelogue, part memoir. Chatwin’s writing merges stories of his restless journeys across Australia with his description of the invisible lines that criss-cross the country, sacred to the Aborigines and along which they pass their theories about the world’s creation.
The selected passages within the book were illustrated to capture the heat, light, intensity of colour and sheer scale of the Australian landscape described in the text along with some of the characters Chatwin meets on his travels and to help convey the sometimes dreamlike quality of Chatwin’s writing.
