Speeches of Note
Matthew Richardson has illustrated Shaun Usher’s ‘Speeches of Note’, recently published by Hutchinson. Building on the massively successful ‘Letters of Note’, the book is an eclectic collection of the world’s greatest speeches. While some speeches are heard by millions, some remain hidden and unspoken, such as President Nixon’s chilling public announcement should Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin become stranded on the Moon.
Illustrated speeches include Tilda Swinton’s tribute to ‘every alien’s favourite cousin’, David Bowie; African-American abolitionist, Frederick Douglass’ speech to the Rochester Anti-Slavery Society, and the maiden Parliamentary speech by Mhairi Black, Britain’s youngest MP since 1667, lambasting the Conservative government’s treatment of the country’s poorest.
